Maryland Women’s Basketball Dominates All Star Split in Croatia Tour Finale

In their second and last game of their Croatia trip, the Maryland women’s basketball team defeated All Star Split 92-53 thanks to a dominant effort. The Terps showed off their might right away, taking the lead early on and maintaining it the entire game.

Maryland started the game strong, going on a 16-2 run to end the first quarter with a 24-13 advantage. They maintained their aggressive play throughout the second quarter, which gave them a comfortable 45-31 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, the Terps continued to play with intensity, beginning with an 18-5 run that all but secured the victory. Their defense was especially strong; they forced 29 turnovers and had a 53–25 rebounding edge to dominate the boards.

A number of players had a big impact on the outcome. Breanna Williams, an incoming freshman, showed off her scoring prowess by leading the team with 20 points on 7 of 16 shots. Saylor Poffenbarger, an Arkansas transfer, contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, showcasing her flexibility and influence on the field from both ends. With 15 points, standout guard Shyanne Sellers also contributed significantly.

The Terps’ impressive display in Croatia shows off their potential for the next campaign, as both new and returning players step up and make major contributions. Their ability to dominate the game on both the offensive and defensive ends is encouraging for their upcoming contests.

Relatedly, Diamond Miller, a former Terp, will soon resume playing in the WNBA following an injury. In addition, Jack Koras, a former midfielder for the Maryland men’s lacrosse team, gained notoriety by scoring in PLL play. The excitement around Maryland sports was further heightened when Jayden Shipps, a 3-star cornerback from Archbishop Spalding in the Class of 2025, committed to Maryland.

The Maryland women’s basketball team has laid a solid foundation for the upcoming season by displaying their depth, talent, and preparedness to play at a high level with this successful trip in Croatia.
