Virat Kohli’s struggles at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 deepened as he registered a golden duck for the second time in his career. Facing USA’s left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, Kohli edged the first delivery he faced to the wicketkeeper, extending his poor run in the tournament.
For the first time in a T20 World Cup game, the 35-year-old Kohli was unable to score. In the current World Cup, his total is a depressing five runs from three innings.
Netravalkar also removed India’s skipper Rohit Sharma (3). Netravalkar had recently guided USA to an incredible victory over Pakistan. When Rohit attempted a shot towards mid-on, he miscued it, allowing Harmeet Singh to brilliantly catch the leading edge.
Rohit started his world cup campaign with a match-winning half-century against Ireland during which he was retired hurt after copping a blow to his arm. He had started the tournament against Ireland with a half-century that won the match.
India’s worries about the form of their opening pair have grown as he only scored 13 runs against Pakistan and another poor score against the United States.
India will play more formidable opponents in the following round as they aim to qualify for the Super 8. To improve their prospects, the team needs Rohit and Kohli to get back to their best soon.
After an incredible IPL 2024 season in which he set records for Royal Challengers Bangalore with 741 runs, Kohli entered the World Cup raising questions about where he will bat for India.
India wants to win the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2008, and they hope that Kohli can soon go back to his best.
